Oracle Enterprise Manager Installation Guide
The Installation Process
To install and configure Oracle Enterprise Manager and its components, you need to complete the following steps:
1. Exit all Oracle applications that are currently running on the Windows NT machine.
2. Run the Oracle Installer to install the Oracle Enterprise Manager software.
3. If necessary, configure SQL*Net for your system.
4. Set up the repository tables. The repository tables can be created in any database that can be accessed in the network.
Note: You must set up the repository and configure the network so that the Console and applications can communicate with any managed database.
Oracle Enterprise Manager requires a configuration file, named topology.ora, in addition to standard SQL*Net configuration files. The topology.ora file is used in conjunction with the tnsnames.ora file to locate services in your network. The addresses of services listed in those files must match.
- If SQL*Net version 2.3 has been installed and configured with the SQL*Net configuration tool Network Manager 3.1, the file has already been configured for your system.
- If SQL*Net version 2.3 has not been configured for your system with Network Manager 3.1, you should use that tool to configure SQL*Net. Refer to the Oracle Network Manager Administrator's Guide.
Note: Install Oracle Enterprise Manager first, then install Network Manager 3.1. That order will set the working directory of Network Manager to the 32-bit ORACLE_HOME directory.
- For your convenience, the Oracle Topology Generator has been provided with the Oracle Enterprise Manager to allow you to configure the topology.ora file. The Topology Generator can be accessed during the installation or executed separately. For information on using the Topology Generator, see "Network Topology Generator" .
Note: If you want to configure SQL*Net manually, refer to "SQL*Net Configuration" for examples of the configuration files that are needed.
