This document is for database administrators and others responsible for administering Oracle products on UNIX operating systems. Although command examples are provided, this document does not attempt to teach Oracle or UNIX administration.

If you are unfamiliar with the Oracle relational database management system, read Chapter 1, "Introduction to the Oracle Server", in Oracle7 Server Concepts before reading this document. The chapter is a comprehensive introduction to the concepts and terminology used throughout Oracle documentation.
